Coming up in December is our second annual Client Appreciation Day! Food, music and photos! Come by Amor Eterno with your fantastic finished and HEALED tattoos to get photographed for next years portfolios and magazine editorials. It would be great to see you and talk about any work you are considering. We'll have food, drinks and music! We will let your know dates and times as soon as we can.

Healing Winter Tattoos
The winter is a great time to get tattooed. Exposure to sun and the elements can cause slow healing and scabbing. Taking extra good care in the first week of a tattoo is essential to a long lasting tattoo. Here are Amor Eterno's tips for taking care of tattoos:
- Avoid sun exposure and swimming. That means no drunk hot tubbing, skinny dipping in your neighbors pool or tanning booths!
- DO NOT USE Neosporin. We have found over the years clients using too much ointment. This causes scabbing and break outs. Did you know removing a scab from your tattoo can cause the ink to heal unevenly? The best is a thin layer of oitment. Enough to cover but not saturate your tattoo. The point of the oitment is mainly so the tattoo will not dry out. Drying out causes your tattoo to scab and crack. This will fuck up your shading which you just spent hours of pain and money for. The ointment should make a shinny surface but not be able to pick up with a brush of your finger.In other words, DON'T cake that shit on there! Below you will find a few recommendations of over the counter products.
- DON'T SCRATCH!!! As I mentioned. Don't pick your scabs. This means
accidentally scraping a scab off while itching. Your tattoo should heal
like a sunburn. It will peel and itch. Slapping your itchy tattoo is
waaaaaaay more efficient and safer.
- Hot compress. We highly recommend this on the first night. Before you go to bed, a great way to avoid getting tattoo resigoo on your sheets is a hot compress. Please make sure whatever you use to compress is clean and will not shed fibers. A few minutes of hot compress not only feels great but will push all the extra plasma and ink out. (Make sure you reapply ointment to the tattoo after to keep moist thoughout the night. I like to sleep with the Seran wrap over my tattoo on the first night. Its not for everyone, but it works well for me.)
- Working. I know we all have to stack that paper but working is not the best thing to do right after being tattooed. If you have to work, make sure the tattoo is moist, clean and protected. A Seran wrap while you work is ok as long as you can let it breathe when you are at home.
- Use sunscreen! Of course this is for after the tattoo is healed. DO NOT put sunscreen on a healing tattoo. The sun will fade your tattoo. Keep your investment bright and beautiful as the day you got it!
Timeline of a tattoo:
Day 1: Yea! I got a tattoo!!!!!!
Day 1 Evening: Hot compress + ointment.
Day 2: Ointment
Day 3: Ointment
Day 4: If it looks like your tattoo is beginning to peel or itch go ahead a switch to a lighter unscented ointment such as lotion.
Day 5: Itches something fierce! Slap your tattoo + keep moist with lotion.
From here on out use lotion anytime tattoo BEGINS to dry out.
Not when it is gasping for water.
Please remember caring for a healing tattoo is different for everyone. Each person, like their tattoo, is different. Some advice may work better than others. Of course we are always available to answer questions about your tattoo.

Aquaphor: Available at Walgreens, CVS or any drug store. Any petroleum based product used in excess will cause clogged pores and break outs. Please do not over use this product. Aquaphor should only be used for the first two - three days.
Dr. Bronner's Organic Body Balm: In our opinion one of the best overall healing ointment on the market. Great for sensitive skin. USDA certified organic and no animal testing. The ointment tin is even reusable as a stash box when you are done! Says it right on the tin! Available online and at Target, Whole Foods and Trader Joe's.
Elemental Herbs, All Good Goop, organic healing balm: A fantastic ointment as well. Lavender in scent. It's organic, all natural and petroleum-free. I like this product because it has non-GMO Tocopherol or Vitamin E. Available in four sizes online at store.elementalherbs.com
Curell/ Lubriderm Unscented Lotion: Daily Moisture Lotion for Sensitive Skin. The 100% dye-free,
fragrance-free and lanolin-free formula is specially designed with
gentle moisturizers for dry, sensitive skin, all in a clean, non-greasy
formula.
